Sporting Lisbon have confirmed they are in negotiations with Norwich City regarding Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
The 24-year old Dutch striker has emerged as a strong target for the Canaries who are believed to be willing to pay around £8.5million for his services.
Sporting president Godinho Lopes revealed that the Portuguese club are locked in talks with Norwich regarding a summer transfer for van Wolfswinkel.
"Sporting would like to inform that there are ongoing negotiations with Norwich for the transfer of player Ricky van Wolfswinkel," read a club statement issued to the Portuguese stock exchange (CMVM).
van Wolfswinkel, who has scored 39 goals in 81 Sporting appearances since his 2011 move from FC Utrech, has long been linked with a move to England and it appears as though Norwich are set to steal a march on their rivals.
