Manchester United were thrashed by Sporting Lisbon in their NexLions Cup tie yesterday in Singapore.
The Reds produced a spirited performance and even took a 28th minute lead though James Wilson, though Paul McGuinness' men were ultimately outclassed after the break when goals from Carlos Mane, Edelino Ie (two) and Christian Ponde sealed progress for the Portuguese Under-19s.
In spite of defeat, there were several positives, most notably the first half performances of Mats Daehli, Jack Barmby and goal scorer Wilson, who was unfortunate not to add to his tally after the break when his penalty was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper.
