Sporting have put the Portugal No1 up for sale and he was watched by a United scout on the weekend against Porto.
Patricio, 23, is rated one of the best young keepers in Europe and has been attracting interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.
United will move for Patricio should they fail to land Atletico Madrid No1 David De Gea.
