Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier happy to declare for England

Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier is happy to be playing for England U19.

Dier spent last season on-loan at Everton.

"I've never really worried about it, but being in a different country, you don't know if people are aware of you or not but it never really crossed my mind," he admitted to theFA.com.

"I was just happy playing for Sporting and I didn't go to Everton with England recognition in my sights, I went there to play for Everton and learn a different type of football and the England call-up has come from that, which is great.

"When I was younger, maybe 15 or 16, I know Portugal spoke to Sporting about me possibly playing for Portugal.

"Sporting did the research and I could have played for Portugal, because of the residency rules. But I didn't really think about that because I wanted to play for England. I'm English, all of my family is English so that's who I wanted to play for."
