Sporting Kansas City recruit Omar Bravo was named the MLS Player of the Week for week 1 of the 2011 season.
The 31-year old Mexican signed from homeland club Chivas Guadalajara after initially joining the old Kansas City Wizards in August last year and made an immediate impact by netting a double on debut.
Bravo scored in stoppage of the first half and then again in the 74th minute as SKC defeated Chivas USA 3-2 on Saturday.
The former Deportivo La Coruna striker was one of three players who scored braces on the opening weekend, joining DC United loanee Charlie Davies and Vancouver Whitecaps' French striker Eric Hassli, but it was Bravo who got the nod from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 1.
