Sporting Kansas City have lost striker Teal Bunbury for up to six weeks.
Bunbury has suffered a dislocated right elbow, an injury that could cause him to miss the team's Major League Soccer opener.
Team spokesman Dave Borchardt said the new estimate was made after Bunbury met Friday with team doctors in Kansas City.
The 20 year-old made his USA debut in November.
