Michael Harrington is out of contract at Sporting Kansas City but the club is keen to re-sign him according to coach Peter Vermes.
The 24-year old right-back has been with the club for the past four seasons and has been a vital member of the line-up, particularly in recent times, starting all but one MLS match in 2010.
Vermes confirmed that Kansas were in talks with Harrington about a new deal and was confident it would occur.
"We have had communication with his agent," Vermes told MLSsoccer.com. "We actually had a really good conversation before I went to Trinidad and Tobago. The ball is in their court at the moment.
"We have explained to them where we are at. The bottom line is we want to re-sign him. We have no interest in trading him, not to say he asked for that. We want him back here.
"Now it's up to him to decide where he is on all that stuff."
