Sporting CP striker Matheus Pereira is attracting interest from Manchester United.

Record says Sporting coaching staff rate Matheus among the best young players to breakthrough at the club for some time.

The 18 year-old has declared he'd like to follow Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo's path from Sporting to Manchester United.

However, Matheus admits he came close to joining AS Monaco last year: "Scouts came here, but it did not work out. Everything was ready, basically submitted, together with a signed agreement, but some problems happened between my manager and them.

"It was a complicated situation."

Matheus penned a deal to 2020 this season with a buyout clause of €60 million.
