Sporting CP president Bruno de Carvalho stands by their claims over West Ham's failure to bid for William Carvalho.
There are now legal threats from the Irons over Sporting's comments.
But Carvalho declared last night: "On the last market day, the father of William, all excited, came to the office of Sporting on the last market day to say we will get two proposals for William.
"We called the lawyer and asked whether it was true and the answer was, 'Honestly, you better go home because no proposal is going to come in'.
"No players should know of the interest of a club before there is an agreement between the clubs.
"William is an excellent player, he has a contract with Sporting, he was very fond of making a great deal for Sporting and for him, but for that it was necessary to have a business. There are two things that guide Wiliam: he is a great professional and will be the body and soul in the club."
