SPL WRAP: Rangers inflict first defeat on Motherwell

Rangers today inflicted defeat on Motherwell for the first this season with a 3-0 result at Fir Park. Steven Naismith opened the scoring in the 20th minute for the injury-hit reigning champions, who were without the likes of David Weir, Kyle Bartley, Steven Whittaker and Sasa Papac, before Kyle Lafferty added a second on the stroke of half-time with an angled finish from a Juanma Ortiz pass.

The match was wrapped up five minutes from time when youngster Greg Wylde fired home to put 'Gers on top of the league table and ending Motherwell's undefeated streak of four matches.

In Sunday's other matches, St Johnstone caused a major upset by beating Celtic 1-0 at Parkhead thanks to Dave McKay's 60th minute strike as Kilmarnock drew 0-0 with Heart of Midlothian.

Yesterday, Aberdeen won 2-1 at home against Inverness Caledonian Thistle with Robert Milsom and Scott Vernon scoring for the victors and Richie Foran getting on the scoresheet for the winless Caley.

Dunfermline Athletic defeated Dundee United 1-0 courtesy of Paul Burns' 85th minute goal whilst St Mirren came from behind to beat Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road.

Garry O'Connor scored his third goal of the season for Hibs before Steven Thompson struck twice in quick succession prior to half-time to give the Saints their first win over the Edinburgh club in four meetings.
