SPL rule out future groundshare

The Scottish Premier League will no longer allow clubs to groundshare, following the fixture backlog facing Motherwell and Gretna.

Gretna have rented Motherwell's Fir Park since their promotion last summer as their home ground Raydale Park was too small to meet SPL criteria.

However, a wet winter and a pitch which is used every Saturday has resulted in a spate of call-offs. "I think we have seen the end of groundsharing in the SPL. I don't think we would allow it again after this season's lessons at Fir Park," a senior Scottish football source told BBC Sport.

As a result of the problems, Motherwell will upgrade the entire playing surface and replace both the drainage and under-soil heating systems in the summer.
