Bookies have launched a betting fix probe after large wagers were correctly placed on a red card being issued during the Motherwell v Hearts game, reports the Scottish Sun. They were alerted when Motherwell's Steve Jennings was sent off late on in Motherwell's game against Hearts on Tuesday night.
Jennings has denied any wrongdoing - but the Association of British Bookmakers, the SPL and SFA will investigate.
It's believed bookies took a number of in-play bets in the region of £200 to £500 from the Liverpool area - where Jennings is from - that a player would get a red card during the closing stages of the game.
The 26 year old was sent off in the 83rd minute for using abusive language towards ref Steve O'Reilly when his side were denied a penalty.
Online bookies Blue Square's spokesman Alan Alger said: "We were offering 10-1 and took a number of bets off new accounts."
A spokesman for the ABB confirmed they "put out an alert" to bookmakers after receiving a report from one firm.
He added: "We reported the matter to the Gambling Commission. We also report to the European Sports Security Association who work with the sports betting industry internationally."
Jennings said he was in "shock".
He added: "I want to make it clear I had no involvement whatsoever in any betting scam. I want to clear my name as quickly as possible."
On Wednesday the Gambling Commission revealed new figures showing it had 108 cases of suspicious betting reported to it between September 2007 and March 2010.
An SFA spokesman said they were aware of "alleged betting irregularities" and will work with the SPL to "establish the details".
A Hearts spokesman declined to comment.
