Gary Speed believes moving to Bolton Wanderers saved his career.

The Trotters are at the forefront of sports science in the Premiership and Speed said: "We actually eat more than we did, but you end up leaner. It works. I don't look too deeply into these things - if it makes you feel fit, if it makes you feel better, that's enough.

"If I'd gone to any other club than Bolton at 34 I don't think I'd be playing now. I feel I can go on and on. I've never felt fitter. I actually feel quicker than I have for a long time and that's the pre- season regime. All the boys have taken it on board. The way you can feel from just what you eat is unbelievable. You go home and tell the kids! I'm sure we'll reap the benefits as the season progresses."
