Tottenham striker Robbie Keane could still be on his way to Major League Soccer next year.
The 30-year Republic of Ireland national team captain has been told he can leave White Hart Lane in January by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, heightening speculation of another shift away from England.
“He's not used to not playing," Redknapp said. "All his career, he's played and been a big player, and he wants to play. He could sit here and take his wages, but that's not him."
Last season, Keane enjoyed a successful loan spell with Scottish giants Celtic, scoring 12 goals in 16 league appearances and 16 in 19 total.
The Whitecaps have a distinct link with Tottenham as Paul Barber, a former Spurs director, is the Canadian club’s CEO.
