SPECIAL LOAN MENTION: Crystal Palace talent Kaikai continues hot Shrewsbury form

Sullay Kaikai has marked his return to Shrewsbury Town in the same goalscoring form as before he left.

The 20-year-old Crystal Palace winger enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan in the first half this season at New Meadow, scoring five goals in 14 League One appearances.

Unfortunately for Town, the initial loan deal was just four months long and Kaikai returned to Selhurst Park on January 16.

Shrews manager Micky Mellon was overjoyed when Kaikai returned to the club for the remainder of the season on March 1.

"We have got a really talented player in the building," Mellon told the club's official website.

"He's still our top goalscorer - that's how valuable he was to us.

"He's a good kid, he has been very keen to come back."

Mellon's enthusiasm and faith in the youngster was rewarded when the Englishmen backed up his return goal against Coventry City in midweek by netting the opener against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

After producing the first chance of the match in the 10th minute - a deflected strike that missed the target - Kaikai put the Shrews ahead with 21 minutes played.

Coming from a corner whipped in by Shaun Whalley, the ball was dropped inside the area by Scunthorpe keeper Luke Daniels. Kaikai instinctively latched onto the loose ball and smashed home from close range.

The match ended with a 2-2 scoreline after Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro equalised for the Shrews in the 95th minute following goals from Iron pair Kyle Wootton and Paddy Madden.

With Shrewsbury hanging not too far above the relegation zone, they will be hoping their semi-new signing will propel them along and out of sight of the threat of demotion.
