Spearing happy to make winning Liverpool return

Jay Spearing was delighted to be back for Liverpool last night in victory over Sparta Prague.

The midfielder has been out of action with a foot injury since he was a substitute for the 3-0 away win at Wolves, but the manager sent him on as a 65th minute replacement for Christian Poulsen and he received a great ovation from the Kop.

"The main thing for us was to get through to the next round and I think looking back at the game overall we deserved to go through," Spearing told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"They were a very good side and were well organised. They caused us a lot of problems in the first half but we changed our formation in the second half which suited us a lot better.

"It was great for me to be back. The manager just told me to go out there and do what I've been showing him in training and I was happy with it.

"The last game I played was the Merseyside derby which gave me a massive confidence boost and then to be injured again after just coming back was a low point for me, but I'm back now and it was great to get a good reception from the crowd when I went on.

"There is lot of confidence since Kenny came in and all of the players have reacted to him and want to do well for him, and we've got some good results.

"This is hard competition and there are some good teams left in it but we want to win it."
