Spartak's McGeady has mixed emotions ahead of Celtic meeting

Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady admits he is having mixed thoughts about the Champions League clash with Celtic on Wednesday night.

The former Hoops star and his Spartak teammates head to Parkhead as the Glasgow club look to qualify for the knockout phase and he suggests that his heart is telling him one thing and his head another.

"Possibly some of the other lads in our team have nothing to play for, I don't know," said McGeady, who spent almost a decade with Celtic before signing with Spartak for £9.5million in 2010.

"It's certainly not the case for me. It's going to be my first time back at Parkhead and I am really looking forward to it.

"I don't have anything to prove to anyone on a personal level but perhaps we have a point to prove as a team.

"We haven't covered ourselves in glory in this campaign.

"The team has been in a bit of turmoil these past few months and it's had an affect on results and performances I'm sure.

"I am not surprised at how well Celtic have done.

"They have performed very well, they have worked very hard and they deserve to be where they are.

"They are a good side and they've shown that with their Champions League performances this season. Obviously tomorrow is massive for both Celtic and Benfica.

"Both still have a chance of making the last 16. I'm still a Celtic fan and I'd love to see them progress.

"But I'm a Spartak player and I want to put on a show tomorrow - we all do.

"We've had a disappointing campaign and we need to salvage something from the last game. This is a big game."

Spartak sits at the bottom of Group G on three points from five matches and will play no further part in Europe this season whilst Celtic needs to better the result that Benfica produce against Barcelona in order to reach the Round of 16.
