Spanish teams put a sock-in-it

Spain's professional football league, the LFP, has entered into an innovative sponsorship agreement with Chinese firm Sockatyes, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/ As part of the deal the soccer accessories company will supply clubs in the top two divisions of Spanish soccer with elastic advertising straps to be worn on their socks.

By providing extra sponsorship inventory for clubs to sell, it is hoped the straps will open up a new revenue stream for participating clubs.

Reigning La Liga champions Atlético Madrid will be the first to sport the new straps when they play their next league match against Espanyol.

The agreement between the LFP and Sockatyes, which will eventually include 13 La Liga teams and 11 from the second-tier Liga Adelante, will run for two seasons.
