Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy has paid tribute to La Liga winners Barcelona.

Barca were confirmed champions of Spain on Sunday.

Rajoy conveyed his "warmest congratulations" to the players, the manager, the coaching staff, the directors and the Barça fans.

According to Rajoy, Barcelona have produced a "perfect finish to this exciting season and added a new trophy to the club's long line of successes".

He added that Barcelona "are a piece of living history from the very best of Spanish football and a veritable icon for all lovers of the greatest sport in the world".
