Spalletti hails Icardi as he matches Inter Milan goals record of Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic

Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi has produced a career best 25 Serie A goals already this season.

Icardi only turned 25 in February, but last night's goal against Cagliari has taken his career total to 106 Serie A goals in 185 appearances.

It's a new personal best, having found the net 24 times last season.

Icardi is also the first Inter player to score at least 25 goals in one top flight campaign since Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2008-09 and Ronaldo in 1997-98.

Inter coach Luciano Spalletti stated: “I think a player like him shouldn't be happy. It's true 25 goals are a lot and he is learning to track back to tighten up the team, so got a lot of touches.

“Anyone who says he just has to stand there and score goals is hurting him, because if he helps out then he'll score twice as many. If he just stands there, it's easier for the defenders to mark him. If he comes back, spaces are created."
