Spain frustration pushing Liverpool ace Torres closer to Chelsea, Man City

A Spain World Cup axing for Fernando Torres could lead the striker closer to the Liverpool exit door.

The Sun says Manchester City new-boy David Silva or Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas can expect to be called in.

Leaving out Torres would have been unthinkable for the World Cup favourites at the start of the campaign.

But the Anfield idol has been struggling for form all year and was hampered by a nagging knee injury that saw him miss 16 Premier League games.

Torres fears he did himself no favours by forcing himself to play in the Kop's final Premier League fixtures in a vain effort to qualify for the Champions League.

Now he is considering his Anfield future following the exit of boss Rafa Benitez, the man who signed him from Atletico Madrid for £26.5million three years ago.

Torres insists he wants to talk to new Reds boss Roy Hodgson before making any decisions over his long-term future.

But with both mega-rich Chelsea and City ready to bid £35m, the cash-strapped Reds could be tempted to flog their star to raise money for new boss Roy Evans to make signings.
