Spain coach Julen Lopetegui says he won't consider Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa until he begins playing.

Lopetegui ignored Costa for his latest squad named last week.

He explained: "He is a player, obviously, we like him and he has been here whenever he has been active, he is training but not competing and we have not thought about bringing him in.

"We have to wait until the month of January, when he will have the opportunity to compete with our team..."

Lopetegui also remarked on Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla after the revelation about his achilles surgery problems.

"It's the other football stories, which also exist: hard, dramatic, overcoming ... I'm sure it will end with a happy ending, that he will turn around that hard, treacherous injury, and that he will return to put on his boots."
