Gareth Southgate admits he could have no argument if he was sacked by Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson.

Southgate, 37, insisted: "If the chairman thought I wasn't the right person he would do something about it.

"Much as he is incredibly supportive and strong, he is nobody's fool. He is a ruthless businessman who knows what he wants and how he wants this club run.

"He has the advantage of knowing what happens here on a day-to-day basis.

"If he felt that direction wasn't right, he would call me in and deal with me appropriately and I would have no qualms about that.

"I understand the run we are having and, on the basis of what everyone else is doing, if he called me in and said results aren't good enough I'd have no argument."
