Despite defeat at Manchester City, Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate was upbeat over the debut of youngster Ben Hutchison.

"As much as I am disappointed about the result, I must not take anything away from the fact it is the best day of Ben's life," the manager said.

"It would be easy for the current criticism to get us down - but it is only us within the club who can put it right.

"I am determined to do that and I feel we have enough players with character to do it as well."
