Southgate denies rejecting Man Utd winger Nani for knockdown price

Gareth Southgate denies turning down the chance to sign Manchester United winger Nani while in charge of Middlesbrough.

Agent Barry Silkmen claimed Boro rejected the chance to buy Nani when he was at Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £3.5m in 2006. Months later he signed with United for £17m.

Southgate told the Evening Gazette today that the claims are not true.
