Southgate admits Middlesbrough interest for Baros

Middlesbrough chief Gareth Southgate has admitted his interest in Lyon striker Milan Baros - but faces competition for his signature.

Lyon boss Alain Perrin has admitted he does not consider Baros one of his first-choices, and a move looks a possibility with Middlesbrough and a number of Premier League clubs showing an interest.

"There are a few players we are getting calls about," said Southgate, who has also been linked with the likes of Nicolae Dica, Leroy Lita, Shola Ameobi, James Beattie, David Nugent and Darius Vassell.

"There will be a lot of sifting through the names over the next few weeks. Loan signings could be something to look at as well.

"But whether you can get players at this time of the year is debatable.

"There will be teams going out of Champions League football as well, so players could be available.

"But Lyon went through so I don't know if Baros would be available."
