Released Tottenham defender Calum Butcher has been handed trials at Southend United.
The 20-year-old centre-back will train with the squad and play for the reserves against Watford on Monday night.
Butcher actually came through the Shrimpers youth set-up before going on to join Ipswich and then Spurs.
He failed to make a single appearance for Tottenham's first team despite being among the substitutes for the 1-1 UEFA Cup draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in February 2009.
