Southend back in business after paying tax bill

Southend United have confirmed that they have staved off the threat of going into administration by clearing a tax bill of £2.1million. The Shrimpers were given a stay of execution by the High Court on Wednesday after pledging to repay, in full, the amount owed to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

A club statement confirmed that the funds had been paid by one of chairman Ron Martin's Group Companies.
