Southampton striker Kenwyne Jones has welcomed interest from Derby County.

"If any team from the Premiership shows an interest in you, then you would be interested," he said.

Jones was not involved in Southampton's 4-1 home hammering by Crystal Palace on Saturday, although Saints' boss George Burley said the player was missing due to a hamstring strain and not a fresh bid from Derby.

But Rams manager Billy Davies kept the transfer bubbling by saying: "We need more firepower and we are working hard to bring in more and that includes Kenwyne Jones.

"We have gone back to Southampton for a third time to try to move the discussions forward. Hopefully, over the next day or so we will have some good news.

"We are also in talks with a number of other targets and we are hoping we can conclude some business."
