Southampton and England Under-21s midfielder James Ward-Prowse met Xabi Alonso, on holiday this month but had to explain to the Bayern Munich midfielder who he was.

The 20 year old said: "I was just walking to dinner one night and saw Xabi Alonso. I asked my girlfriend to take a picture of him because he was an idol growing up. You know, although I am 20, playing in the Premier League I still look up to people like that. He was a great role model growing up."

He admitted that he had to explain to Alonso who he was, and where he played. "He gave me a little bit of advice. I explained I was at Southampton and stuff like that. I obviously knew who he was. I was like a little kid again."
