Southampton whizkid Sam McQueen is drawing inspiration from Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

Southampton academy ace McQueen impressed on his Premier League debut against Burnley last weekend before making his first start in Thursday night's Europa League defeat at Italian giants Inter Milan.

“Saints have a good history of left backs," said the 21-year-old, who is set to keep his place against Manchester City with Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett both injured.

“I don't want to think too much about that and put pressure on myself.

“It is interesting but I will do everything I can.

“Luke (Shaw) was a friend of mine, I played with him for years.

“We both wish each other the best. He sent me a nice message on Twitter after the Burnley game.

“It is a position I enjoy now but I won't focus on the people I just focus on what I have to do. Everyone is a different player regardless of the position."
