Southampton thrashed derby rivals Portsmouth 7-0 in the FA Youth Cup yesterday.
Sam Gallagher sent Mauricio Pochettino a timely reminder that he is ready for first team action after smashing in a superb hat-trick as Saints hammered arch rivals Pompey.
Saints coach Jason Dodd reflected: "Sammy G is in and around the first team and that shows the strides he's been making and I think he's put a little message out to the boss.
"He's been on the bench and he's got goals in him.
"Earlier in the season he wasn't as clinical but he put some great goals away.
"He's been really happy with his progress.
"He's been asking us questions and been in and around the first team for the last four-six weeks and that's why he's also progressed up to the under-21s."
