Southampton striker Rodriguez: Liverpool cup clash something you dream of when injured

Southampton star Jay Rodriguez has revealed that he has been dreaming of a big cup clash against such clubs as Liverpool.

The Saints prepare to welcome Liverpool to the St. Mary's Stadium in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday night and the match will certainly be a special occasion for everyone involved.

Striker Rodriguez, in particular, has been waiting for a chance to feature in such a monumental game for a while after being ruled out for a long time due to knee ligament damage and ahead of the clash, the once-capped England international has stated that he will be fired up on the night.

"When you're in the early stages of rehab and you are miles away from coming back and playing, you do watch football a lot," Rodriguez told the Daily Mirror.

"The big games, the Europa League games, any Premier League game is a massive game that you look forward to playing in. They are the things you dream of. Things you get excited for.

"So for me the game is definitely important to us and we will definitely be fired up for it because it is something we won't want to have taken away from us."
