Southampton striker Rodriguez happy to contribute in vital Europa League qualifier

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez was delighted to score his first goal after a gap of almost 17 months.

The 26-year-old striker, who missed the entirety of last season due to a cruciate injury, scored a penalty in the second half to level the score at 1-1 in the home leg of Europa League play-off with Danish club FC Midtjylland on Thursday night.

He told the club's official YouTube channel: "It was nice to get started and to get off the mark. I wanted to score more as I had a few chances that I'm disappointed with. But it was a nice feeling to score and get the team back in the game.

"I fully believed that all we needed was one goal before opening them up. With the disallowed goal as well it was frustrating. We're going to focus now on Sunday's game before the second leg."
