Southampton attacker Charlie Austin was left confused as to why the Bournemouth fans jeered him during the south coast derby on Sunday.

Despite coming close twice, in 2009 and then in 2015, Charlie Austin did not sign for Bournemouth and perhaps as a result, he was given a hard time by the Cherries supporters during their clash against the Saints at the Vitality Stadium.

Austin told the Daily Echo: "I'm not too sure why. It has been a long time and I didn't sign for the club. If things had been different and they hadn't been in the situation they were then I would have signed. It wasn't my fault.

"Eddie and Jason did everything they could to sign me and I would have. Like Eddie said in the week, he couldn't stand in my way and I will forever be grateful to him for letting me go and giving me the chance he did."
