Southampton starlet James Ward-Prowse is drawing inspiration from Tottenham's Eric Dier.

Ward-Prowse has watched the likes of Tottenham stars Dele Alli and pal Dier leap ahead of him into Roy Hodgson's senior England squad.

Ward-Prowse said: "They inspire me. Eric has done very well this year and he's an old room-mate of mine and we shared a lot of good times together and it is good to see him where he is.

"Having watched him, that's the level I need to be at to reach the senior team. But I need to nail down a permanent spot in the Southampton team."
