Southampton are currently in talks with former Lyon boss Claude Puel, according to Sky Sports.
The Saints have been actively looking for a new manager in the transfer market following Ronald Koeman's recent departure to Everton.
The report claims that Puel, who has also managed Monaco, Lille and Nice in his career, is currently the favourite to land the job at St Mary's Stadium.
The former defensive midfielder won a French league title with Monaco in 2000 and guided Lyon to a Champions League semi-final appearance in 2010.
Earlier this summer, he ended a four-year stint with Ligue 1 club Nice, but could now be on his way to the south coast of England to take charge of the Saints.
