Southampton's Lallana backs Shaw's England call

Southampton captain Adam Lallana believes youngster Luke Shaw thoroughly deserves his first England call-up.

The 18-year old left-back was included in Roy Hodgson's squad for Wednesday night's international friendly with Denmark at Wembley and midfielder Lallana insists his Saints teammate has earned his chance despite being behind the likes of Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines in the Three Lions pecking order.

"I'm not surprised at all," he said. "He has been outstanding for us all season. He looks like a seasoned pro and it was no surprise to see he was included in the squad.

"There are two outstanding players ahead of him (Cole and Baines) but he will keep his feet on the ground.

"He knows he is going to learn off them and if he watches them closely in training he knows it is going to do him good."

Shaw, who came through the famed Southampton youth academy, has made 25 Premier League starts this season to take his overall appearance total to 50 since debuting last campaign.
