Southampton are in talks with Werder Bremen over the permanent signing of Eljero Elia.

Bremen winger Elia spent time on loan at Southampton during the second half of last season and the Saints had the option of turning the deal into a permanent one upon the conclusion of the campaign for a fee of around £4million.

The Saints had decided not to exercise the option but it has now been revealed by the Daily Echo that the Premier League side are in discussions with Bremen regarding Elia and are hoping to strike a deal at a cheaper price.
