Southampton push Tottenham target Rodriguez to pen new terms

Southampton are planning to offer new terms to Tottenham target Jay Rodriguez.

The Mirror says Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino wants a reunion with Rodriguez, who played for him at the Saints last season, in January and is ready to offer £20million.

But Southampton are desperate to rebuff their former boss and give their striker a new five-year deal, even though he is still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury that ended his season in April and likely cost him a place in England's World Cup squad.

They hope their superb start to the campaign - they sit second, 10 places and 11 points ahead of Spurs - will keep the star at St Mary's.
