Southampton open Butland talks with Birmingham

Southampton have approached Birmingham City for goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The Daily Echo says Saints have enquired after the young stopper, rated at around £3m, but are one of a number of Premier League clubs to do so with Newcastle, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham also interested.

It is understood that Butland, who is contracted to Birmingham until 2015, is only interested in a move away from St Andrew's if he can be guaranteed some first team football.
