Southampton are moving for wantaway Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Daily Star says Saints have contacted Atletico in a late bid to sign defender Alderweireld.
Arsenal are reported to be interested but have yet to formalise their interest in the Belgian with a move for Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas the main priority before the transfer window slams shut.
The defender's dad Vic Alderweireld recently pleaded with Atletico to let his son leave the club on loan so he can get regular game-time.
He said: "Toby wants to play, going out on loan would be the best option. If there is a solution, Atletico won't stand in his way.
"Since last year, we've had several discussions on this issue and Atletico understands that we don't think it makes sense to leave Toby on the bench for another year."
