Southampton News: Romeu rejects Barcelona rumours; Obafemi targets first team return

Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu says he wouldn't consider a return to Barcelona.

Romeu was linked with Barca last season.

But he told Marca: "Nothing reached me. Yes, I heard some comment that they needed players there and various names were considered, but they never contacted me or my agent. They probably didn't see me as an option.

“As I have said before, to go to a big club to be in the second tier [of players], I don't know if I would accept it. I don't enjoy [it], what I want is to play. I don't think that at Barca I could have been a starting player, it's like that and you have to be aware of the options that one has."

Meanwhile, Saints whizkid Michael Obafemi was delighted with his goal for the U23s in victory over Newcastle United.

After the 5-1 win, the teen said: "The first few games I was a bit easy-osy, but now I'm getting into it, feeling confident and linking up with Hesky (Jake Hesketh).

“Hopefully in the next game I can score against Blackburn and get myself back in the first team."
