Southampton News: Pied thrilled with comeback; Yan Valery delighted with U23 progress

Southampton defender Jeremy Pied was delighted with his role in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Frenchman produced a strong performance in his first full 90 minutes of action in the Premier League this season

Pied stated: "I tried to give my best against Bournemouth and to play a smart game, not just pushing forwards all the time but also concentrating on my defending. It was a good step for me and I am looking forward to continuing in the team.

"It is not easy being on the sidelines but as a member of this squad, it is your job to support the team in whatever way you can."

Meanwhile, another Frenchman with Saints is pleased with his progress.

Yan Valery, 18, is a versatile defender similar to Pied and is happy with his form for the U23s.

He told the Saints website: "Every game I am starting, I'm happy. I try to learn from the older players.

"I like attacking and crossing, when I have the ball the first thing I am thinking is go forward. I'm learning the defensive side also, working on my 1v1 defending and distances with the centre backs."
