Saints were on their knees when Swiss billionaire Liebherr bought them out of administration in the summer of 2009 and ploughed in £33million of his personal fortune.
But Liebherr suffered a fatal heart attack in August 2010.
Lallana said: “We have been through some dark times.
“The Liebherr family and the chairman Nicola Cortese came in and added some stability for the staff and players.
“We are all thankful for what Markus did and it would be nice to give him a little bit back. The fans will be singing his name because if it wasn’t for him, who knows where the club would be now?
“We have been through it, come out the other side and not looked back. Now we can achieve something special.”
