Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg hopes to use victory over Arsenal as a "springboard".

A brace for the returning Danny Ings and a late winner from substitute Charlie Austin saw the home side defeat the Gunners 3-2.

“Hopefully we can use this as a springboard," Højbjerg said. “We have to stay focused and realistic but use the confidence from the positive moments from this game because we played very well. We scored three goals against one of the best teams in the league so it's a really big result.

"We can not get carried away, we have to stay strong and keep building and it all starts tomorrow again in training. We need to take the confidence with us and believe we can win the next game as well."

He added: “Most importantly we want to fight for the club because we want to take the club to the next level. Congratulations to everybody, the fans, the coach and the players because the performance today was special."
