Southampton lucky to earn Arsenal draw - Koeman

Ronald Koeman admitted his Southampton side were fortunate to gain a point at Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Saints held the Gunners to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium but were extremely lucky to come away with even a share of the points as the home side dominated proceedings.

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster was a key part of Southampton's ability to keep a fourth straight clean sheet in what was an extremely lucky match for the south coast club.

Koeman said on Sky Sports: "Not one team in one-and-a-half years of managing Southampton have created what Arsenal created today.

"You need to be lucky first and you need to have a goalkeeper who is saving everything.

"That's maybe what I need to explain what happened today because normally it's more difficult to create those kind of chances against us.

"We didn't play well and we [fought] unbelievably. We showed unbelievable spirit today."

The draw saw Southampton move up to seventh on the table where they sit above Liverpool by virtue of goal difference.
