Ryan Bertrand has pulled out of the England squad thanks to a back issue.

The Southampton left-back will now miss friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy.

A Football Association statement read: "Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand has returned to his club for further assessment on a back issue.

"Bertrand's withdrawal is a precautionary measure and he will play no part in the forthcoming fixtures against the Netherlands and Italy."

It is good news for Saints fans as Bertrand will now have ample time to be ready for next Saturday's six-pointer against West Ham United.
