Southampton have opened talks with Cedric Soares as they continue their summer move to tie down key players.
The full-back was an integral part of Portugal's success at Euro2016 and it is understood that Saints chiefs want to reward for his international exploits.
Soares is contracted at St Mary's until the summer of 2019 but it is believed that the south coast club want to offer improved terms, just as they have done with winger Dusan Tadic and striker Shane Long.
24-year-old Soares, who joined Southampton from Sporting Lisbon last summer and made 24 Premier League appearances under Ronald Koeman, is expected to have more of a key role under new Saints boss Claude Puel this season.
