Southampton goal hero Redmond: ‘I should have had 4’ against Liverpool

Nathan Redmond bemoaned his profligacy in Southampton's 1-0 win over Liverpool tonight.

The winger had four attempts on goal in the Saints' victory in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg at St Mary's, only to hit the back of the net once, with a composed finish in the 20th minute.

Reds keeper Loris Karius denied Redmond twice, while the woodwork kept him out late in the contest, in what could have been an enormous outing for the 22-year-old.

"I should have had four today," he told Sky Sports.

"On another day they might go in, but we got the win in the first leg and take into the second leg now."

Regarding his misses, Redmond felt his book-end chances were the two he was most concerned with: "The first one or the last one.

"The first one I had more time, and the last one I tried to be too smart and chip it over him, but I will learn from my mistakes and work on it in training."
